Geographic Scope of Service
FBC is one of the largest blood centers in Florida, employing
more than 1,000 professionals in 21 counties serving more than 70
hospitals and medical facilities throughout the state. We operate
44 branch locations and a fleet of 50 mobile units. We also
maintain eight service hubs throughout Central and South Florida
that distribute blood products to the hospitals we serve.
Operational Redundancy
Our loyal donor base, professional staff, solid relationships
with hospitals and state-of-the-art facilities allow us to provide
a safe and reliable blood supply to those in need. Our regional
laboratories maintain back-up blood supplies available for use
around the clock. This operational redundancy allows us to provide
blood even if multiple medical emergencies put pressure on the
blood supply, or if a natural disaster disrupts operations in one
or more regions.
Our system is a decentralized model that includes a headquarters
building and eight strategically located hubs. Donated blood is
transported to the local hub for component preparation and
distribution to area hospitals.
This decentralized approach serves FBC well throughout the year,
but has been especially effective during times of natural disasters
(such as hurricanes), allowing additional blood components to be
collected in unaffected areas and routed to areas that are unable
to run normal operations. This allows us to serve our hospitals in
affected areas with a stable blood supply and continue to operate
as usual without postponement or cancellation of surgery.
State-of-the-Art Technology
Ensuring a safe and reliable blood supply to our hospitals
requires us to maintain state-of-the-art technology and facilities.
This allows for the most efficient and cost-effective collection,
processing and distribution. After blood is collected, it is kept
at one of our regional laboratories while a sample is tested and
screened at our state-of-the-art medical facility in Orlando. After
testing, the results are shared electronically with our regional
lab, which then delivers the donated blood directly to
hospitals.
Community Investment
FBC is a service-based organization and we believe in sharing
our time, talent and resources with others in the community.
Members of our management team serve on boards of other
organizations around the state that share our life-saving mission
and values. We also invest in worthy causes that will improve the
health and welfare of our community.
Center of Excellence
CaridianBCT, one of our vendor partners, has designated FBC as a
Center of Excellence for exceptional performance in automated blood
collections. FBC is one of a select few blood centers nationwide
that share this designation. While there are many facets to this
program, the emphasis is on training and educating the staff and
donors to increase donor retention and target the right products
from the right donor at the right time. FBC has invested more than
$300,000 in this program through customer service training, donor
appreciation programs and educational initiatives. This program has
led to a more positive work environment for FBC staff as well as a
more positive experience for our valued donors. Focusing on
automation has also given FBC the ability to supply necessary
products such as platelets to our hospitals when they are needed
the most.
Statewide Leadership
FBC is a leader in making Florida a destination for the
bio-medical industry, and we are proud of our support for
world-class research organizations such as the Sanford/Burnham
Medical Research Institute . We believe our state has a bright
future as an incubator for innovative businesses, ideas and
strategies to advance the causes of science and health. We are
committed to exploring these opportunities as fully as possible.
Developing Florida’s potential as a bio-medical destination will
nurture “a rising tide that lifts all boats.” The results are a
diversified economy and an improved quality of life for all. These
are the ultimate benefits delivered by “The FBC Difference.”
